Academics

Curriculum Overview

At Seed & Sprout Day School, we believe children learn best through play and exploration. We work to engage children’s natural desire to learn by providing experiences that spark curiosity. We keep in mind that not all children process information the same way, so care is given to plan activities that engage visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners that are also individualized specifically for each child .

  • The children’s curriculum is theme-based and differentiated for each child's specific developmental needs. These themes will be based on many things from the child’s individualized academic interests, world cultural events and other common themes that might include “5 Senses,” “Weather and Seasons,” “Community Helpers,” and more. Teachers read books, sing songs, and plan activities centered around these themes.

  •  Preschool aged children, will have thought-out individualized lessons that will go much more in-depth of these weekly themes, and act as class leaders. Center time is employed on a daily basis, and there is also a greater emphasis on writing, literacy, numbers, and other academic foundations for pre-Kindergarten aged children.

Developmental Milestones

Seed & Sprout Day school monitors each child’s development using checklists provided by the state. The purpose of this checklist is to help parents understand where their child is excelling and where their child might need additional support. This checklist is shared twice per year (more, if requested), during parent-teacher conferences.

Parents will also be able to get daily reports of their child’s activity and accomplishments through their personal account on our Lillio App once registered.

Schedule Description

Toddlers through Junior Kindergarten in our classroom follow a schedule. A typical day consists of independent choice, morning meditation, free play/center time,  music and sound, outdoor discovery, lunch and snacks, rest/nap time, and closing circle. This SCHEDULE will be  communicated from the Teacher at the beginning of the school year.

  • Independent Choice: Each week, teachers will introduce a new theme. At least once per day, the teacher will introduce a special activity centered around the theme that hits learning objectives or provides practice in specific skills. For young children, this might be a simple arts and crafts activity that encourages fine motor movements, or for older preschoolers, this might include a tactile, hands-on activity that develops letter recognition.

  • Morning Meditation: Every morning once all children arrive we will begin our day with mindfulness practices to help promote self awareness and give children self soothing techniques to use throughout the school day.

  • Free Play/ Center time: During this time themed materials are set out and as the children explore the space they will have the freedom to choose which activity they would like to us. Typical activities include art, reading/literacy, science/math, games/puzzles, blocks/manipulatives, dramatic play, and music.

  • Outdoor Discovery: Exercise and fresh air is an important part of our program. Please dress your child accordingly in layers for comfort and closed-toe shoes for running/playing. If all of the following conditions are present, then staff and children will go outside: presence of sunlight, absence of rain, and temperature is between 40-95°F (taking into consideration wind-chill and the heat-index). If conditions dictate staying indoors, children will be provided stimulating activities to play with.

  • Snacks & Lunch: Children will have a morning snack time available, and lunch time is around 11:30. Children will have an option for afternoon snack as well. Please bring ready-to-eat items and a beverage that do not require microwaving. We encourage families to pack healthy food items that will keep children feeling their best throughout the day.

  • Rest/Nap Time: Rest is integral to a child’s overall wellness, so all children have rest time built into their day. Though we certainly encourage it, we know not all children may sleep during this time; older children who have dropped napping can rest on their nap pads while quietly looking at books.
